Oh give me a home . . .

where the buffalo roam.

Subtitled: The Denver Adventure.

I am back in Lincoln after a long, yet much too short stint in Colorado. It was all so wonderful and crazy - really not encouragement for returning to the real world. Anywho - the photo above is on the 16th St. Mall, along the way to the Tattered Cover bookstore. This bookstore is absolutely amazing - very old, wooden floors, amazing collection of bargain books, and just a really peaceful, book-happy atmosphere. The whole 16th Street Mall area is pretty b.a. Definitely a great place to wander and chill, drink coffee, shop in hippie shops and designer boutiques, catch an art gallery or a bowling alley. It's such a mix.

So. After GPS Bitch got us lost in downtown Denver ("ArrIVing. At Destination." . . . "Off route." . . . "ArrIVing. At Destination." . . . "Off Route. Recalculating.") we finally found our hotel on Colfax. Only after driving past the concert hall with a line already wrapped around the corner. Awesome location becuase it was a whopping two blocks from the Fillmore, and yet dismal location for the fact that Colfax is an interesting street . . . more on that later. So yes, spent the afternoon on 16th St Mall, then immediately got ready and headed for the line. We staked our spots for 2 hours, out in the freezing cold, no coats . . . my hand was a block of ice. Honestly couldn't bend my fingers. But we had fun in line. :)

(and yes - if only I could go back THIS thursday I would - The Shins!?!?! To be followed by the Roots? . . . I need to move. Now.)

7:30. The line moves, we are patted down by security, and walk inside one of the coolest venues I have ever been in. There were giant chandeliers, a wall covered in artists who had graced the stage, and a sunken floor for the General Admission section.

We grabbed a few drinks at the bar, and claimed our spots on the floor. Long story short - Albert hammond, jr. band = damn fine music (the lead singer of the strokes in a new band). Incubus = damn fine music though a short set and perceptible difficulties in tech and voice. However, so amazing. Got to see Warning and Are You In performed which they didn't play at Red Rocks last time - two songs I've alwasy wanted to see live. Yada yada yada, got my ass kicked in the beginning, over too soon. Here is an alright pic of Brandon from farther back, but couldn't get any when we were up front - too much craziness!

The next day - whew blur. Got up, packed up, headed down Colfax towards the art museum. Along the way, encountered some interesting people - fresh from some binging of the past night. Anyway - opted to move the car from Colfax, and hit the Denver Art Museum - awesome! This museum, I can't really explain it at the moment. It was an AMAZING collection of modern art. They had everyone and no one: Matisse, Degas, Picasso, Monet, Manet, Warhol, . . .you name it. Their temporary exhibit, RADAR, was SO intense. It was a collection of contemporary art that was absolutely insane! I'm pretty sure the concept was "art on mushrooms." And I only say this because one entire room was a wall painting of little mushroom people, and a room sized sculpture of these same mushroom people. Cra-zy cool. The buildling itself was quite a work of art.

Well, after this, we began to head to Boulder. LOOONG LONG story about getting lost, me suggesting we get a map, and no one agreeing until we ended up in . . . Estes Park? Yes. We drove up a mountain and finally realized GPS Bitch was just that - a GPS BITCH. And so, at 9 pm or so, in the dark, we headed back down the mountain, watched the snow begin to fall, and made our way through an impossible wall of fog to Schy's gram's house which was 5 hours away. Finally on Saturday we made it home, after a note from Schy's grandpa saying, "Schy, if you see any mountains ahead, you're going the wrong way!" :) Oh my. So there is the version that appears quite long, but in reality is quite short. Great weekend fun, now I don't want to return to school and stress and schedules. Boo.

Alright. Time to do some reading and writing and such. Peace and love. And music.

"And she called out a warningWARni-ing" No fair! You saw that one live! I totally remember that song being on the radio my Junior year of college - specifically, listening to it during my life drawing class...oh so many nekkid people... But a great song, nonetheless. :)

I'm glad you had fun! See you in 3 1/2 weeks - woo!
